The ex-Fluminense of Brazil player scored the opener and the third goal as he led his country to a second successive big win in the group. For their final group game, Brazil came unstuck against the English team as they were beaten 2-1 despite taking the lead through Tales on 19 minutes. Henri Lansbury and Jordan Spence scored the final minute of the first half and second half respectively to win the game.

The Brazilians had already qualified at the end of their second group game and the loss had no effect on their knockout stage qualification from Group B. Though, they could have had a more favourable round of 16 fixture if they drew with or beat England to take top spot.

In the round of 16, Brazil faced Ghana and that was their last game at the tournament. Isaac Donkor scored the only goal of the game in the second half to eliminate the Brazilians from the tournament.
